Data Usage
Last updated: July 29, 2026
1 Overview
This page explains exactly what data TTR Journal collects, where it goes, how long we keep it, and how you stay in control. We believe in full transparency — no fine print, no hidden tracking.
2 Data Flow: Manual Trades
When you manually log a trade, the following data is sent from your browser to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection:
- Symbol, side (long/short), entry/exit prices, quantity, P/L
- Entry and exit timestamps
- Setup type, tags, star rating, and notes
- Screenshot URL (if attached via Imgur upload)
This data is stored in a MySQL database on our secured server and is only accessible to you and any mentors you explicitly invite.
3 Data Flow: Auto-Sync (EA)
When you install our MT4, MT5, or cTrader EA on your trading terminal:
- The EA runs locally on your machine and monitors closed trades
- When a trade closes, the EA sends trade details to our API using your unique sync token
- The connection is one-way: your terminal pushes data to us — we never connect to your broker
- We receive only trade data (symbol, price, lot size, P/L, ticket number) — never account credentials
- Each sync token is tied to one specific connection and can be revoked instantly
4 Data Flow: Mentorship
When you invite a mentor:
- They receive read-only access to your trade log, analytics, and account summaries
- They can post comments on your trades
- They cannot modify, delete, or export your data
- You control which mentors have access and can revoke at any time
- Revoking a mentor immediately removes all their access
5 Data Flow: Backtesting
The replay engine fetches historical OHLC candle data from Yahoo Finance via our server-side proxy. This data is publicly available market data and contains no personal information. Your backtest sessions, simulated trades, and results are stored in your account.
6 Data Flow: Screenshots
When you attach a screenshot to a trade, the image is uploaded to Imgur's API using a client-side upload. We store only the resulting Imgur URL in your trade record — the image itself is hosted on Imgur's servers under their terms of service.
7 What We Store Locally (Your Browser)
- JWT Token: Your authentication session (localStorage). Cleared on logout.
- Theme Preference: Dark or light mode (localStorage). No expiry.
We do not use cookies, session storage, or any other browser storage mechanisms. No third-party scripts set storage on our domain.
8 What We Do NOT Do
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties
- We do not serve ads or use ad-tracking pixels
- We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party analytics
- We do not use your trade data to train machine learning models
- We do not profile users for marketing purposes
- We do not retain data after account deletion (cascading delete)
9 Your Control
You are always in control of your data:
- Export: Download your full trade history as CSV from the trade log
- Delete trades: Remove individual trades at any time
- Revoke sync: Delete auto-sync connections instantly
- Revoke mentors: Remove mentor access with one click
- Delete account: Permanently erase all data via Settings > Danger Zone
